Interview with Jessalyn Gilsig...

Talk about going out with a bang. On last night's Nip/Tuck, Christian's unhinged, sex-addicted ex-lover Gina plummeted to her death while the two were mid-coitus on her apartment building's roof. Luckily, Jessalyn Gilsig, is alive and well and ready to dish about her character's bizarre (even by Nip/Tuck's freakish standards) swan song.

What was your reaction when you found out how you were being killed off?
Jessalyn Gilsig: I thought it was so brilliant. And so sad. She finally expressed [her true feelings] to Christian and then she falls off the building. [Laughs]

What was it like shooting the scene?
Gilsig: We were in downtown L.A. and it was cold. The stunt girl did one take before me, and it looked SO hysterical when she fell off the edge of the building that I burst into hysterics. I think I might've ruined the take. They set it up so perfectly; it was so unexpected. It was so bizarre.

Did series creator Ryan Murphy tell you why he killed Gina off?
Gilsig: He didn't, actually. In typical Ryan fashion he was like, "It's Nip/Tuck. You can come back as much dead as you can alive." I could always come back and haunt Christian.

Were you disappointed?
Gilsig: I was… I loved this character very much. She's been so good to me, and the show's been so good to me. It was always very exciting to read the scripts, because you never knew what was going to happen.

Anything stand out?
Gilsig: The scene where I had to wax Kimber. It was something I could never conceive of. Who would think of that? As a place to go to work and as a character to play, I'm really going to miss her. It was such an incredible job for me from the very beginning.

At least you got a memorable send-off.
Gilsig: I was so relieved. But I was like, "She better get a funeral, 'cause I don't want them over surgery, like, 'By the way, Gina's dead.'"

Switching topics, you recently ended an arc on Friday Night Lights. Any chance you'll go back?
Gilsig: Nobody said anything. They didn't kill me, so that's good. It's an incredible show to work on. I was actually shooting Nip/Tuck and Friday Night Lights simultaneously, which was challenging, if only because FNL shoots in Austin. Also, the two shows are so different in their production styles. Nip/Tuck is very stylized, and we rehearse a lot and work out our marks…. There's a sense of control to it. And Friday Night Lights is the exact opposite. It's very loose. They're shooting with three hand-held cameras at all times and you can walk wherever you want. It was really wild to do the two at the same time. I'm a big fan of Friday Night Lights, so I was really excited to work on it. I really love Connie and Kyle's performances. They're so underrated, especially when you're there and you see the emotional cartwheels that they do. It's the best representation of marriage I've ever seen on television; it's so authentic.

What are you up to now? Waiting for the strike to end?
Gilsig: Yeah. I just try to remind myself that this happened before [in 1988], and the industry does recover. I think it'll be different, but maybe we needed some change anyway. But it made me realize how vulnerable I am and how dependent I am on this industry. It's a real eye-opener.

Ausiello: I'll do no such thing. But I will tell you that the death occurs early next year and it's an awful way to go — even by Nip/Tuck standards. BTW, good and bad news regarding how the strike's affecting McNamara/Troy. As you'll recall, 22 episodes were ordered last year, to be divided into two seasons. The good news is that all 14 eps for Season 2 were completed before the strike and will air through Feb. 19. (No new epsiodes air on Dec. 25, Jan. 1 or Jan. 8. See, I'm not the only one taking off.) The bad news is that the eight episodes for Season 6 have not been written, so they've been postponed indefinitely.

Cat in New York: I like Paula Marshall as Sean's new girlfriend on Nip/Tuck! This seems like it could be a long-term thing, yes?!
Don't get too excited. We asked Dylan Walsh about Dr. McNamara's romantic life this season and he said this: "Sean has several new love interests. He is doing better in life, but I caution you not to get too enthusiastic because his love life, in contrast to Christian's, is still problematic." Walsh went on to tell us that there's a Jacuzzi scene in tonight's episode that's "hard to stomach," but the good doc will keep trying, and he's having some fun, so that's good.

Sharon Gless joins cast...

One of these days, stunt-crazy Nip/Tuck is going to give a role to an unknown actor. This, however, is not one of those days.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that FX's slice-and-dice drama has sewn up two-time Emmy winner Sharon Gless for a four-episode arc to air during the show's upcoming fifth season (launching Oct. 30). The ex-Cagney & Lacey star will play Colleen Rose, an all-business talent agent who sets her sights on Sean. No, not romantically &mdas; professionally; she wants to represent him. (Although in the Nip/Tuck universe, the thought of Sharon Gless and Dylan Walsh having sex doesn't seem so strange. Icky? Yes. Strange? Nah.)

Gless' Nip/Tuck duties won't interfere with her costarring role on Burn Notice; production on the second season of the USA Network smash doesn't start up until mid-January, long after Gless' Nip/Tuck episodes are in the can.

Fans will be able to catch new episodes of Nip/Tuck on October 30. Meanwhile, lead star Julian McMahon hints on what's in store for season 5.

In the upcoming season of Nip/Tick, McNamara-Troy will be embarking on a new drama as the two Miami surgeons move their plastic surgery center to L.A. Sex-craved Christian Troy (McMahon) will use his charm to bring in potential female candidates and conducts shady business deals, often for the love of money, while Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) takes his job seriously but gets caught up in Christian's mistakes.

“We're running to this problem that everybody here is kind of a celebrity plastic surgeon…so everybody's kind of known and as us being kind of this big fish in this what we call as little pond of Miami,” McMahon revealed to Access Hollywood.

As for his self-absorbed womanizing character, McMahon dishes that he'll be coming across many realizations this season.

“Christian's here and he thinks he's just gonna nail this town in regards to… the practice, in regards to all then women in the town. And then he finds out slowly but surely that…he's not the only hot shot on the block and he's not the only fast talking smooth talking doctor so things kinda go tumbling down the hill which is always what happens in our show."

Naturally, upgrading to a new city comes with a hefty price tag. The Nip/Tuck star describes their new set and reveals that they'll be running into some financial problems.

“This stuff is extravagant the size of the set is just enormous and that's to give us the kind of feel that we purchased this space which is probably three or four times the size of what we should have and we've extended ourselves beyond what we actually have,” he said.

“We go around to shop for clients… It gets a little nasty too,” he added.

The fifth season premieres Oct. 23, and I’ve got some major news: Julia and her new girlfriend (played by Ms. Portia de Rossi)—yes, I said girlfriend—will be the victims of a violent crime this year. FX buys Creater's New Series...

FX has extended its relationship with Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy by buying a pilot of his new series. Originally, the show was entitled 4 Oz. and had been pitched as a story of a married sportswriter with children who discovers that he is actually a transsexual. However, a representative from the cable network told The Washington Post's The TV Column that the name has been scrapped and that the show now involves a married gynecologist who shares a practice with his father.

FX has insisted that the change in the show's premise has nothing to do with LA Times Sportswriter Christine Daniels, who, prior to undergoing sexual reassignment surgery, was known as Mike Penner and was married to a fellow sportswriter. Moreover, the FX representative said that the changes were made even before Daniels' publicly announced her transformation.

Murphy announced the idea for his series last year, telling Variety that the title 4 Oz. refers to the average weight of a penis. However, Dr. Harold M. Reed, a Florida-Based sexual reassignment surgeon, said that the number is inaccurate, and that in reality, the male organ weighs even less.

Murphy also told Variety last year that he had already planned a five-season arc that will also involve the transgender's teenage sons.

"The first season deals with the revelation of his secret," Murphy said. "In the second season, he begins dressing like a woman. The third covers the surgery, and his inherent doubts about going through with it, and by the fourth season, he's living as a woman and attempting to find love.”

Murphy wrote the pilot episode for the series, which is currently being called The Untitled Ryan Murphy Project, with Brad Falchuk, a writer and producer on Nip/Tuck. Murphy will helm the pilot, as well as executive-produce with Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner.

The subject of transsexualism has also been explored in Murphy's Nip/Tuck. For instance, Famke Jannsen portrayed Ava Moore, a therapist who was once a man, during the second season.

The same episode will include an adults-only swingers club. One storyline has Rob, a charming drug dealer, who is all for trading drugs for sex. Someone will go (or is) in a rehab center.

FX is turning up the heat on Nip/Tuck, with Joely Richardson and openly gay actress Portia de Rossi pairing up for the fifth season of the popular plastic surgery drama.

According to various reports by entertainment magazines such as TV Guide, the actresses' love scenes are said to be so explicit that even crew members used to Nip/Tuck's recurrent sexual storylines have been shocked.

"Portia's character is going to be involved in a torrid relationship with Joely's character over about 10 episodes,” an on-set source is quoted as saying. "It's going to be shocking stuff. So far, the pair's sex scenes have been wild. Even the crew have been shocked by what they have seen."

On Nip/Tuck, Joely Richardson plays Julia, who will reportedly fall for de Rossi's character, whose daughter becomes the patient of Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon).

Joely Richardson, who left the show briefly last year to take care of her sick daughter Daisy, has no plans of watching the same sex scenes.

"I make a point of never watching myself. Even if it's just a standard scene, I can't watch. And nude scenes I never want to see,” the 42-year-old British actress said.

Nip/Tuck has been known for its sexually-driven storylines, which in turn have gotten them into some trouble with some watchdog groups, particularly the Parents Television Council. During the TCA press tour, creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy expressed his thoughts about the group, saying “I really don't get involved in that. I don't think that you can. I think anytime you try to tackle subjects that are adult and somewhat brazen, there are going to be people who are going to say, ‘This should not be on the air, our children should not be watching this.'”

The fifth season of Nip/Tuck is slated to premiere in October, and according to TV Guide's Michael Aussielo, two more actors, John Schneider (Smallville) and Bradley Cooper (Alias, Kitchen Confidential) have been tapped to guest-star in the upcoming season.

Jessalyn Gilsig, known for her portrayal of Gina Russo on Nip/Tuck, has joined the cast of an NBC drama pilot entitled Backyards & Bullets. Written by Ed Decter and John Strauss (There's Something About Mary, The Santa Clause), the series revolves around a suburban town in Wisconsin where the neighborhood watch has stepped over boundaries, causing trouble for the town's sworn police officers.

Billy Burke (The Jury) will lead the series as Lonnie, the beleaguered chief detective of Ridgeview, while Kristin Lehman (Drive, Judging Amy, Prison Break) will play his wife. Some parts of the show will be shot in Milwaukee late this month.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessalyn Gilsig will play the wife of Matthew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under). Other cast members include, Richard Ruccolo (Two Guys and a Girl), Abigail Spencer (Angelas-eyes.aspx">Angela's Eyes), Enuka Okuma and Casey LaBow.

Gilsig rose to prominence in television when she was cast as Lauren Davis in the high school drama, Boston Public. She was part of the main cast during the series' first two seasons, but unexpectedly left the show before its third and final run. In 2003, she joined the cast of FX's Nip/Tuck as a troubled sex addict who becomes involved with Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) after they meet at a Sexaholics Anonymous meeting. Aside from being a sex addict, Gilsig's Gina also suffered from bulimia, self-hatred, fear of abandonment, self-destructiveness, sarcasm, rage and bitterness.

Aside from her complex role on Nip/Tuck, Jessalyn Gilsig has also been recognized for her recent portrayals of Lisa Rix on FOX's Prison Break and Meredith Gordon, Claire's (Hayden Panetierre) pyrokinetic biological mother on NBC's Heroes.aspx">Heroes. Currently, she is working on the remake of the horror film, Prom Night, which will be released next year.

The pilot episode of Backyards & Bullets will be directed by Emmy Award winner Charles McDougall (Housewives.aspx">Desperate Housewives), who will also serve as an executive producer along with Decter, Strauss, Jamie Tarses and Gavin Polone.

Throughout the show, she was noted for consultations regarding the identical twins that wanted to look different, the patient with manic depression and the patient with multiple personality. Aside from her medical expertise, she was also known for her affair with the promiscuous Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). In attempt to address the doctor's high sexual activity, she referred him to a support group but contradicted her own advice by having a sexual encounter with him. She disappeared from the show with very little explanation, although it was revealed that Christian and Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) were talking about firing her. Later this year, the 31-year-old actress will be featured in a comedy flick directed by Ian Gurvitz.

From the director of the comedy series Becker comes a new movie called LA Blues, which unravels the lives of six guys through a scene of what may have been an attempted suicide in a Hollywood parking lot. Told through flashback narrations, the film trips on humor, hope, sorrow and adversity while leaving the viewers curious about what really happened in the earlier parking lot mishap. The former Nip/Tuck actress stars alongside Kevin Rahm, William Ragsdale and Dave Foley.

Following her exposure on Nip/Tuck, Valerie Cruz landed guest roles on television series like Crossing Jordan, Las Vegas, Grey's Anatomy and Invasion. She was also cast as Maria Nolan on the short-lived series Hidden Palms.

At present, Valerie Cruz remains on the television loop as Lt. Connie Murphy on the mystery series The Dresden Files.

As Gina Russo on Nip/Tuck, Jessalyn Gilsig was known as the troubled sex addict who had a love-hate sexual relationship with Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). She had a Borderline Personality Disorder and suffered from various issues such as bulimia, self-hatred, rage, and self-destruction, which further strained her relationship with the womanizing doctor. Nevertheless, the two were able set aside their differences with the emergence of Gina's son Wilbur, whom Christian treated as his own despite not being his child as he is half black. In due course, Gina was revealed to have HIV, which forced Christian to rethink his sex life and prompted him to help Gina finance her medication and rent. Their friendship abruptly changed as they embarked on a lengthy child custody battle, which gained closure when she realized that Wilbur belonged to Christian. Next year, the Canadian actress will be gracing the big screen with a new horror movie and will be returning on the small screen with a crime-drama pilot.

On April 11, 2008, the former Nip/Tuck actress will be featured in director Nelson McCormick's thriller film called Prom Night. A remake to the 1980 horror film that starred Jaime Lee Curtis, the movie centers on a senior prom that turns into a night of terror and murder caused by the sadistic rampage of an obsessed killer.

Also slated for 2008 is the television series The Apostles, in which Gilsig plays Christine Rydell. She joins Steven Brand and Joe Bucaro III in a plot about cops whose job pressures spill over into their private lives.

Aside from Nip/Tuck, Gilsig also landed a role on the series Heroes, playing Meredith Gordon, the biological mother of Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) who has pyrokinetic abilities. Most recently, she starred as Dr. Carrie Ross in the tele-film Destination: Infestation, which is a science fiction thriller about the fatal attack of bullet ants.

Fans of the controversial drama series, Nip/Tuck, can expect the show to retain its highly sexual storylines when it returns for another season in the fall. Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour that his show is the most sexual one on the air and will continue on that track, adding that the show is also being cloned in other networks.

“I feel we did things that are now being copied elsewhere, which I take great pride in,” Murpy said.

Nip/Tuck follows the lives of two plastic surgeons, Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) and Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh). Although the first four seasons were set in Miami, it was revealed in the previous season's finale that the two doctors will be setting up their new clinic in Los Angeles. Despite the new location, Murphy and the cast members said that the series will continue to push the limits when it comes to depicting sexuality.

“The show is still as sexy as it's ever been,” Murphy said. “Television is a thing where some doors have to be pushed open and, once those doors are pushed open, other people will follow. I think our show -- two years, particularly -- we did a lot of very bold things.”

McMahon, whose character is known for pushing sexual boundaries, even expressed dissatisfaction over the show's current tone, claiming that it needs to become even edgier.

“I don't think the show is kinky enough,” McMahon said. “I've kind of pushed for that kind of stuff consistently … I just want to push things even further.”

Although the Nip/Tuck cast and crew are set on maintaining the sexuality of the show, they may face more heat from the Parents Television Council, a watchdog group that has continuously targeted the show's advertisers with a vigorous campaign.

When asked what he had to say about the group, Murphy replied, “I respectfully say, 'OK, thank you very much,' and I really don't get involved in that. I don't think that you can. I think anytime you try to tackle subjects that are adult and somewhat brazen, there are going to be people who are going to say, ‘This should not be on the air, our children should not be watching this.'”

Rosie O'Donnell is getting cheeky on the new season of Nip/Tuck. I have the scoop on her return to the hit FX series as garish lottery winner Dawn Budge.

And it's so not pretty. I must warn you, if you're eating right now, you may want to stop.

Here's what I'm hearing: A mysterious man pops up and wreaks havoc on some of the patients. I'm told he's nicknamed the Ass Bandit.

Why? Because he pretends to be a doctor in order to fulfill his fetish of giving rectal exams. And guess who his first victim is said to be? None other than Ms. Dawn Budge!

Let's just hope they keep the visuals to a minimum on this one.

A rep for Nip/Tuck declined to comment.

O'Donnell will appear on several episodes, and I'm told shooting starts this week in L.A.

Fourth Season Coming out on DVD...

Fans of FX’s Nip/Tuck now have two things to look forward to this fall: the fifth season premiere of the hit drama series and the release of the complete fourth season DVD.

The fourth season DVD will also be available in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. The latter two editions will contain four discs, while the former will be made up of five. All editions will have the same features, namely “Cutting Room Floor Unaired Scenes,” “Clever Casting: The Season's Guest Stars,” “Sizzle: The Sexuality of Nip/Tuck,” “The Cutting Edge: How Real-Life Dramas Are Incorporated into the Show” and “Severed Parts Gag Reel.”

Prices for Nip/Tuck’s fourth season DVD vary. The Blu-Ray and HD-DVD editions will each go for $79.98, while the regular DVD will go for $59.98. All three will be available by September 4.

The fourth season of Nip/Tuck began airing on September 5, 2006 with a total of 4.8 million viewers. Like the previous runs, it featured a variety of guest stars, including Brooke Shields (Suddenly Susan), Kathleen Turner, Jacqueline Bisset, Rosie O’ Donnell (The View), Alanis Morissette, Mario Lopez (Saved by the Bell, Dancing with the Stars), Rebecca Gayheart and Jessalyn Gilsig (Boston Public, Heroes). The season finale aired on December 12, 2006 and drew a total of 3.38 million viewers.

In the beginning of the season finale, Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) is shown packing up the last of his things from his home and being handed with a check by Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon). Sean is later seen being interviewed by the Encino Plastic Surgery Clinic of America in Los Angeles. Towards the end of the episode, Sean is seen working at the Los Angeles-based clinic. In the middle of an eye operation, Christian shows up and proceeds to assist him. Christian tells Sean that he, too, is moving to the city. He then asks Sean to be his partner again.

With the two doctors relocating, fans can therefore expect a new setting when Nip/Tuck returns in October. As previously reported, a new batch of celebrities, including Portia de Rossi and Oliver Platt, has been tapped to guest star in the upcoming season.
